The Saints' time in office is short-lived when an alien empire known as the , led by the tyrannical Zinyak , invades Earth. Zinyak abducts the President and the Saints, eventually destroying Earth and trapping the survivors in a Matrix-like digital simulation of their former city, Steelport. Life in the Simulation
Inside this virtual "hell," the Zin attempt to break the will of their captives by placing them in personal nightmares tailored to their deepest fears.
With the help of hackers like , the Boss learns to manipulate the simulation's code, granting them superpowers such as super-speed, telekinesis, and flight (or "fart-gliding").
